Experiencing the Refreshed and Revamped 2024 Tesla Model 3

It’s time for a refreshed Tesla Model 3 lineup with more features and power. While the trim names stay the same, some things will change.

When the 2024 Model 3 appears, two trims will be immediately available: Standard Range RWD and Dual Motor Long Range AWD. These two models have been a staple in the Model 3 lineup and are the most chosen versions, but something’s missing. Later in the model year, the Performance trim will join the mix and be offered. Tesla claims this new Model 3 Performance will be better than ever.

Will the Model 3 go Plaid

Although most of us might associate plaid with a fabric pattern that’s worn by lumberjacks, fabric used in autumn fashion, and used for western-themed holiday decorating, Tesla uses it to label its high-performance trims of the Model S and Model X vehicles. The Plaid trim comes from the movie “Spaceballs,” describing the fastest possible speed a spaceship could travel. Although we expect the new Model 3 Performance to include more speed and power, it’s unlikely this compact electric car will go Plaid. Still, its entirely possible this new performance version will have more power than the previous model.

Will Performance match Highland

Recently, the Tesla Model 3 came out as a “Highland” version. This gives us a look at what to expect with the new Performance model that should be part of the next round of Model 3 sedans. The Performance model could have better cooling ducts to bring more air to where it’s required for increased performance. Although the question of whether or not the Performance trim will match the Highland model is interesting, more pressing questions should be asked. Will this new model have a larger, heavier battery pack? Will it have a better driving range to go with the increased power? Can Tesla achieve better performance figures with the current equipment?

What’s new for the Model 3?

The 2024 Tesla Model 3 includes styling upgrades with a sleeker front end, a quieter cabin, and updated standard features. This new Model 3 is just as recognizable as the current model, but the small styling changes make a huge impact. This new version looks fresh and more upscale than before.

Going inside, Tesla adds better materials and more sound-deadening items to ensure the cabin is much quieter than before. This new Tesla has an improved steering wheel. You’ll immediately notice the car no longer has a turn signal or transmission-shifter stalks. The seats have new perforated upholstery to enable ventilation and comfort for the front passenger.

Looking to the rear seats, passengers now have an 8.0-inch display with adjustable climate controls and connectivity to watch streaming services while riding in this area of the Model 3.

How far can you go in this Tesla?

The Tesla Model 3 has represented affordability in the EV world since it first appeared. While we wait for the Model 3 Performance to arrive, it’s important to note the driving range of the two trims that will be available when this new model year is released. The base RWD version offers a claimed range of 272 miles, while the Long Range model delivers 333 miles of driving. The new Performance trim should fall between these two at close to 315 moles when released.

As expected, the Model 3 can utilize the Tesla network of Superchargers for DC public charging and hook up to a 240-volt home-charging station. This makes recharging the Model 3 easy, convenient, and affordable.

Simplicity in design, but not usefulness

The clean lines and uninterrupted style of the Model 3’s cabin are admirable, except for one feature. In every other car that you drive, the turn signals are controlled by a stalk on the left side of the steering wheel. The new Model 3 has buttons to control these signals. This change could be challenging for some drives and cause Model 3 owners to use their signals less often than they should. Still, the simple design and elegant nature of the cabin make this car enjoyable once you’re inside.

You’ll find ample cargo room inside this small electric sedan. The rear seats fold flat and provide enough room for up to 15 carry-on suitcases, giving most drivers more than enough cargo space for their stuff. You’ll also see several bins and cubbies in the cabin for smaller items.

Could the new 2024 Tesla Model 3 be the right EV for you? Are you waiting to see what the new Performance trim offers? We should have this information soon.
