What Does the New 2024 Toyota Tacoma Include?

The next generation 2024 Toyota Tacoma could show up with significant changes, or it could be a lot of the same stuff we’ve enjoyed in this midsize truck.

Although the idea of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” applies to the Tacoma, a new generation is on the horizon. Toyota has been moving forward with new powertrains and models for the past couple of years. The Tacoma marches onward with its same build because it is still the best-selling midsize truck in America. Last year, 237,000 Tacomas were sold, which was 150,000 more than the Colorado, which came in second.

What should power the new Tacoma?

If the next generation of this midsize truck follows along the same path as other Toyota models, this new pickup will use smaller engines than what the current lineup offers. This means we could see the end of the V6 engine in the Tacoma. In its place, there could be a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine or a hybrid powertrain. Of course, if the Tacoma follows the same pattern as the Tundra, we will see a turbo and a hybrid powertrain offered for this new pickup truck.

If Toyota replaces the V6 engine in the Tacoma, they could use the turbocharged engine from the Highlander. This engine is a 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder model that makes 265 horsepower. They could also add the hybrid engine from the Lexus RX Hybrid, which has the same engine as the Highlander but with an electric motor. This setup gives the RX 366 horsepower, which is what we could see out of the next version of the Toyota Tacoma.

Something has to stay the same

Most likely, the new Toyota Tacoma will retain much of its current style. This truck is as big as it will ever get and maximizes that size pretty well. That means we should continue to see the rugged good looks that make the Tacoma one of the most appealing trucks in the market. Of course, we might also see some of the Tundra style added to the mix. One of these expected new items from the Tundra is the exterior lighting package. The headlights and taillights from the Tundra should arrive in the new Tacoma, giving this midsize truck an amazing new look.

Spy photos are getting some of the new stuff

As the Tacoma enters a new generation, one area where it should improve is in the cabin. Most mainstream vehicles haven’t received upgrades that bring high-quality materials and style to them until a new generation emerges. This new midsize Toyota pickup should include a redesigned steering wheel, a shifter that’s moved closer to the driver, an electronic parking brake, and a dashboard with a digital gauge cluster and a larger touchscreen. These are some of the basic changes that could give the new Tacoma an excellent cabin fit and finish.

A new platform means something special for the Tacoma

The new generation of the Toyota Tacoma will ride in the same TNGA-F platform we see under the Tundra. This could translate into a slight growth spurt for the truck, but most likely, it will give the Taco something special. The special is in the suspension, which will finally change from a leaf-spring model to one with a modern coil-spring setup. This change will ensure the ride is much smoother and more comfortable on the road. Most midsize trucks already offer these driving characteristics on the road, but now this Toyota will as well.

Will the New Tacoma go electric?

Electrification has been in the rumor mill for the new Tacoma for a while now, and we know the TNGA-F platform can support it. That means the new Tacoma has the door open to offer an electric truck version. It would make perfect sense for the Tacoma to have an electric variant, much like the F-150 now has the Lightning. The sales leaders in the pickup truck market going electric is something we expect to see in the future.

The new 2024 Toyota Tacoma ushers in the next generation of this top-selling midsize pickup truck. The Tacoma has been around for thirty years, and this new model should be on sale by the end of 2023, giving us a new version of one of the most popular and useful trucks. How dramatically will this new Tacoma change from the current model? Probably not as much as you might think.
