This Car is Extremely Fast

With safety issues that took some lives and injured others, the tradition of running fast laps at the Nurburgring track seemed to be in peril. Thankfully, the racing world has avoided the stoppage of running record laps at this track to be lauded by the entire world. If the laps had been halted and running for track time had gone by the wayside, we wouldn’t have the pleasure of being able to talk about the newest car to make the fastest lap we’ve ever seen at this lauded track.

The Car that Made the Run

It should come as no surprise that the brand that was able to break the all-time track lap record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife track was Porsche. How fast was the car that made the run? The new lap record is 5:19.55 and the car that made the run is the Porsche 919 Evo. If you’re not impressed with this time, think about the fact that the track is a 12.9-mile course that weaves its way through the German landscape and offers a large number of twists and turns. This car was able to complete nearly three miles for every minute on the track.

The Porsche 919 Evo is a heavily modified LMP1 car. This car was forced out of the FIA WEC series in which the car once raced. Instead of scrapping the project, Porsche chose to modify the car and break the all-time lap record at the most famous track in the world. Before breaking the record at Nurburgring, this car made its way the Spa course and broke the Formula 1 record held by Lewis Hamilton. Now that it has broken the record at Nurburgring, a time that was set in 1983 is now gone after standing for a long time.

What the Car Brought for the Run

The Porsche 919 Evo that was piloted by Tim Bernhard for this record-setting run has a ton of power for the drive and the fun of the race. This car is one that has a hybrid V4 powertrain that’s boosted up to 1,160 horsepower to give this car an insane number for the race around the track. This car was also made lighter and more aerodynamic to make sure it can easily cut through the air. The Evo was giving more than fifty percent more downforce than it had before the modifications were made.

If you want to know what it looks like to race around this track at the speeds that it took to break the record, check out the video below. The onboard video of the lap can give you an idea of just how fast Bernhard had to be with his reactions in order to make sure he could stay on the track and keep the run right. This will certainly give you a feeling of awe and amazement at what the Porsche team has accomplished with the help of the driver that had the courage to get behind the wheel.
