Jeep Gladiator - A Look Back at the Unveiling of this Truck

We already know that the Los Angeles Auto Show is where we will see the new Jeep Gladiator pickup truck, but the FCA team is playing coy with the media.

Start with the fact that a new name has been leaked and this truck won’t be called the Scrambler but will be called the Gladiator and then think about the fact that the specs and photos of the new Jeep pickup were found on the Chrysler media site for a short period of time before being pulled down, and you see how coy they are being.

Play Coy all You Want FCA

With the anticipation of this new Jeep pickup truck that’s built on the same platform as the Wrangler, we are excited to talk about what it might be. Because FCA pulled the information, I’m not going to tell you this is confirmed information, but will instead say that you can expect the following to be part of what this truck will offer. This new truck is expected to be called the Jeep Gladiator, which seems to be a fantastic name for a truck that’s built from the most impressive off-road SUV we have in the market.

Getting Specific with this Jeep

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is expected to be powered by one of the most familiar engines in the market. Yes, the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 engine is expected and it should make 285 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque for the drive. The transmissions should be a choice of an eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual for the drive you want to make on the roads or trails. There is an expected arrival of a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 that we’ve seen in the Grand Cherokee which could make 240 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque.

Looking down the list, the towing capacity of the Gladiator is expected to reach 7,600 pounds, which will likely be the diesel engine rating, and offer a payload of 1,600 pounds. There should be two four-wheel-drive systems offered with beefy Dana 44 axles that make use of electronic lockers in the front and rear. Other items you’ll see include an electronic sway bar disconnect and 33-inch tires that will be great for the challenge of going out on the trails. This package of items could be exactly what you want if it all arrives in this truck.

The Jeep Gladiator Gives Us Something New

There won’t be any competition in the market for some of what the Jeep Gladiator will offer. This truck will have the open-air capability to give you a soft top that can be removed and let you feel like you’re driving in a regular Jeep Wrangler model. There’s a five-foot bed that offers the practicality you want along with a fold-down windshield. This is a pickup truck that we can look forward to seeing offered at the show that’s scheduled for the end of the month.
