Is Ford Trying to Hide the Mach 1 from the World?

In January we were given a glimpse at a teaser trailer for the Ford Mach 1 which will be a performance crossover EV for us to drive.

The future of the automotive industry will show us a large number of vehicles that are powered by alternative fuels for the drive.  All has been quiet on this front since that time but recently spy shots have found a new crossover SUV being tested by Ford that showed a few details that were a bit over the top. This new test vehicle is the one we expect to become the new Mach 1 when it arrives.

Features that Give it Away

When we see a testing vehicle, we expect to see the details that make sense for the drive. The new tester crossover that was spotted showed a large protruding exhaust pipe that doesn’t appear to be in use and stickers on the side that say “diesel fuel only.” It’snot likely that Ford is working on a diesel crossover SUV for the US, and with the size of this SUV, it has to be for the US market. Add the fact there weren’t any visible openings for fuel to be added to the vehicle and it makes more sense this is an EV and not a diesel model.

Hiding the Electric Power of this Ford

Another way this new testing mule shows that it could and should be the new Mach 1 is the fact that it has features that seem to hide the battery tray. The rear diffuser panel is extremely large, which means it could be hiding the batteries that are likely in the back of the vehicle. Another item that tells us this isn’t just any SUV shows up in the tires. The tires on this SUV are economy-minded Michelin Primary A/S tires which are often used for EV models and certainly not for diesel-powered vehicles.

Where in the Lineup Will it Belong

If you remember the teaser trailer video, the Mach 1 was shown alongside a Mustang and an Explorer. The Explorer is close to the size of this new EV SUV that could be offered for the future. With the movement by Ford to SUVs and away from the car lineup, adding electrification solves the future of this brand. The new Mach 1 might fit in the lineup near the Explorer, but it looks like the EcoSport with a larger size for your driving enjoyment.

More to Come from Ford

The new Mach 1 isn’t expected to be part of the Ford lineup until a later model year, which means there’s plenty of time for more prototypes to be added for us to admire and gather details from. Until then, we’ll have to try to not be fooled by Ford, which has so far done a poor job of trying to pull the wool over our eyes, until they are ready to let us know that the SUVs they’re testing will eventually become the new Mach 1 that we can enjoy with electric power.
