Honda is Going Hybrid with Every Model

Honda has recently announced that it will increase its electrification plan by creating hybrid or EV models of every vehicle in its lineup.

Bold statements that have been made in the past couple of years take time, planning, and progress to come to fruition.  This means we’re going to see a European market that’s fraught with Honda models that make the most out of hybrid efficiency or electric driving, but there might be one that will take things to a different place in the market and give us a performance upgrade.

The Civic Type R Future

By 2025, there will be a hybrid form of the Honda Civic Type R in Europe. That’s enough of a statement to get your wheels turning and give you an idea of what this car might be when it arrives. What we can expect for the performance version of the Civic is for it to be upgraded with a hybrid system that could be inspired by the Acura NSX sports car. This would make the new Civic Type R an even more engaging performance car that can be a lot of fun on the road and at the track.

The Promise from Honda Increased

When Honda first looked at the potential of electrifying the lineup by 2025, the idea was to electrify two-thirds of the lineup. This was the statement made in 2017, but the new direction to electrify the entire lineup by 2025 came as a new promise at the Geneva Motor Show. This is a bold statement, but with two years of analysis and discussion regarding what the Honda team can do, they seem to have the confidence needed to be able to upgrade the lineup by the 2025 model year and offer the European market a full line of electrified vehicles.

The Hybrid Civic Could Arrive Sooner

The next generation of the Honda Civic Hatchback and Type R for Europe is scheduled for 2021. This would be the most logical date for the new hybrid version of each of these new models to be offered for this market. With this new promise, having these two new versions of the Civic this early could be one of the most positive experiences for the market if Honda is able to make the necessary additions to these cars and offer them with hybrid or electric power by 2021.

Another New Electric from Honda

In addition to the new Civic Type R with hybrid power, Honda is already committed to offering the European market the new E Prototype in a production version. There have already been 15,000 registrations of interest in the new electric city car that will have a range of 125 miles, which means Honda needs to get this car on the market very soon. You can expect many of the new electrified Honda models that show up in Europe to also make their way to the North American market for our driving pleasure as well.
