F1 Returning To Las Vegas

Many have dreamed of racing down the strip in Las Vegas. Next year, a group of F1 drivers will get to make that dream come true in Las Vegas.

The 2023 Formula 1 racing calendar includes a brand new Grand Prix to be held in the United States. This racing circuit has global appeal and races in various countries. Currently, there are two Grand Prix races in the US, but starting next year, there will be three. With this racing coming to Sin City, a lot of preparation and promotion must occur, both of which Vegas is known for.

Where are the Other Grand Prix Races Held in the US?

The United States has hosted two F1 Grand Prix races for several years. One was held in Austin, Texas, while the other is in Miami, Florida. These are unique events with thousands of people in attendance for the weekend of racing. The popularity of Formula 1 racing is growing, and with that comes the desire for more races, more exposure, and more promotion. This makes Las Vegas the ideal spot for the third race.

The Track Map Includes the Strip

You wouldn’t want a street course race in Las Vegas without the famous Vegas Strip as part of the action, and that’s precisely what F1 racing has done. The course for this new Grand Prix is a 3.8-mile street circuit incorporating this iconic area of the city. The circuit features 14 corners and a long straight path where drivers can reach speeds over 210 mph. This race is currently planned for 50 laps, which means it won’t take too long to enjoy the race and crown champion, the world’s gambling capital.

Breaking New Ground for Formula 1

The Las Vegas Grand Prix will be held on a Saturday. This is the first time since 198t that F1 has had an event of this magnitude on a Saturday. This breaking of tradition allows the race to fit into a prime slot for the US audience to enjoy. F1 CEO and president Stefano Domenicali is excited by this new race and the new venture with one of the most famous cities in the world. He stated,“ There’s no better place for Formula 1 to race than in the global entertainment capital of the world, and we cannot wait to be here next year.” Indeed, race fans can’t wait to see this race either.

Hasn’t F1 Tried to Race in Las Vegas Before?

Yes, there was a race held in Vegas in 1981 and 1982, but it was a bit of a failure from the start. Rather than incorporating the entire city, the race ran on a temporary circuit in the Caesars Palace casino parking lot. This left many other businesses out of the deal and became an event that was poorly attended. Thankfully, this time, the race will incorporate the entire city, and F1 will work along with the casinos and resort around the town to make sure it becomes a huge hit.

Formula 1Expands in Other Areas

There will be an F1 race in Las Vegas next year; the calendar is set for the circuit to have a race in Qatar and to bring back the Chinese Grand Prix, which has not been held since 2019. There’s enough interest for the racing calendar to include up to 30 races each year, but the current Concorde Agreement limits the number to 24. This might need to be reviewed before future racing seasons as interest in this sport continues to grow.

Get ready, racing fans, Formula 1 racing is heading to Sin City to give us the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Mark your calendars for November 2023, and get ready for some racing action and a lot of fun.
