Mitsubish Lancer EVO

The 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO that will be available in late July of this year is the first and last of its kind. Mitsubishi has chosen to take the car in a totally different direction in the future. As a high performance sports car this is both a good and bad occurrence in the car world. It is good for those who are lucky enough to get their hands on one as it will become rare very quickly but be very difficult to upkeep and repair when needed.

The news that has come out of Mitsubishi states there will be a new performance model sports car, but under an entirely different name and a new platform. Unfortunately that is about all that is known so far and will start and end the evolution of the Lancer sports car. Even the Mitsubishi PR agency has stated they cannot discuss future plans as they are currently of a highly confidential nature.

Other than knowing Mitsubishi is working on the next-generation of performance car it’s impossible to tell what is actually taking place. Even Mitsubishi dealers are asking. Are they going to put out a hybrid or plug –in car as a high performing sports car? Are they going to simply go with full on performance and power numbers to cruse the competitions? It’s really hard to say, although Mitsubishi has announced the will be competing in the 2014 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with two technologically-advanced MiEV Evolution III cars that are completely electric-powered and built specifically for this competition.

What this announcement tells the public is there is a possibility their next performance vehicle is in the form of a MiEV as most automakers, Mitsubishi included, use these racing platforms to develop their engineering for their production cars. The two cars that are being introduced to this competition are equipped with 450 kW electric motors, a redesigned tube frame chassis and new structural material to reduce weight. These cars are also equipped with Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) to improve traction and handling for control and performance.

All of this technology just might show up in 2016 in a MiEV as a performance line, or Mitsubishi could simply come out with a whole new lineup altogether. The public won’t know until its releases and with Mitsubishi currently being very tight-lipped about it, it’s hard to say when the information will be releases.

In the meantime it’s a great time to celebrate both the beginning and the end of a performance car era with the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO as it rolls off assembly lines in July ready for those will to own a great performance car.
