2015 Ford Transit

The Ford Transit has quickly become one of the leaders in the industry of work vans that are built to haul a great deal of passengers or material. The Transit comes in the Van form for cargo or the Wagon for passengers and offers three roof heights, two wheelbases, and six body lengths. The Transit offers plenty of space for up to 15 passengers as well as having three different engines to choose from. All these different possibilities for the Ford Transit allow it to maintain a leadership position in the work van segment as well as be a great option for those who are in need of hauling people.

For those who need a versatile and mobile workstation the Ford Transit is a fantastic choice. With a partnership with eleven upfitters the Ford Transit can be ready for business the day its picked up at the dealership and loaded with great features to enjoy. For 2015 the Transit is completely new and redesigned to replace the E-Series work van. This allows Ford to offer just one large van for the purpose of hauling people or equipment wherever needed.

Driving the Transit gives owners a feeling of being able to fit confidently behind buildings and in small alleys that are often the access given to work crews when on a service call. The Transit is enjoyable from behind the wheel with a very smooth riding suspension and easy to enjoy responsive steering system. The engine lineup gives the van the ability to make speed on highways and offer the owners some enjoyable fuel efficiency in a lineup of great work vans.

With the three engines to choose from there is a power offering for the Transit that will fit any need allowing the work to get done or the team to make it to the ball game. All three are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift and a tow/haul mode. The base engine comes in as a 3.7-liter V6 engine that offers 275 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine when mated to the transmission shows up with a fuel mileage of 14 city/19 hwy mpg.

For a bit more power and the same fuel mileage numbers the next engine up is a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 that offers 310 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine allows more work to be done and offers a great feeling of saving on gas. This is the choice for medium to large jobs and great hauling to take place.

With a diesel powered offering up next, the third engine comes in as s 3.2-liter diesel inline five-cylinder engine that gives owners a good power offering at 185 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine has not yet been rated for mileage, but Indianapolis Ford tells us that it should prove to be better than both of the gasoline powered models.

As a rolling office workspace, the Transit offers enough space up front to hold a table computer, smartphone and a few water bottles making it a great place for those who head out for the work day to spend their time and not have to look back or go back to the office for things left behind. The seats are covered in ether cloth or leather for comfort and even on the work models the SYNC with MyFord Touch can be included. Another nice feature of the interior is the tilt and telescoping steering wheel that gives a bit more comfort to the overall drive of this van.

On the outside the Transit offers three roof profiles: 83.6 inches which is considered the low profile, 100.8 inches considered medium, and 110.1 inches which is the high profile. Add to this the six different body lengths that range from 217.8 to 263.9 inches in length, tinted glass, 16-inch steel wheels that can be had with color keyed hubcaps and black surrounds and the front grill that gives a nod to the high performance European cars and the Transit is one very interesting looking work vehicle. For anyone who chooses the Wagon XLT model, full wheel covers a chrome grill, grill surround and headlight trim is offered as standard fare to make the van appear more people friendly and less like a work vehicle.

For the Ford Transit the standard features offered include the 16-inch wheels and hubcaps, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, power windows and locks, black front and rear bumpers with a front lower valence and a rear step, short-arm dual power side mirrors and tinted windows. The Wagon XL model brings in a six-speaker audio system and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The XLT adds the chrome around the grill and lights as well as automatic headlights and an upgraded eight-speaker sound system for more listening enjoyment.

The optional features offered for the Ford Transit include a ten-way power driver’s seat, an engine block heater, rear parking sensors, extendable mirrors, a Crew Chief feature, cruise control, keyless entry, SYNC with MyFord Touch, a six-inch touch screen and a navigation system. The 3.7-liter engine can be equipped with a CNG/LPG package to allow the van to run on natural-gas or on propane. These optional features and the ability for the Transit to be upfitted prior to delivery allow it to be able to be set up ready to go right to work once delivery is taken of the van.

Even though the Transit comes in with some great features that are not built in on some other models, the Transit starts out with a base price just over $30,000 while a fully loaded model will reach up well over $50,000 making it a great van to be equipped with whatever is needed. With all the different capabilities and size options of the Transit available, this van can be set up perfectly for any business, organization or large family to be able to enjoy the ride and not overspend for the ability to haul whatever they need to the jobsite, game field, or weekend getaway destination.
