2016 Blue Chevy Camaro

As one of the names that is recognized worldwide and rings true as a performance leader the Camaro is always an amazing car.  The reason for some added excitement right now is the fact that Chevrolet is about to unveil a new generation Camaro and has given out some great specs to make us ready to put up our first born just to drive this monster.  These specs include the data for every engine with the various transmissions, the actual weight loss that took place and much more to give you a taste of what you can have on one of America’s favorite muscle cars that continues to impress us.

Power and Acceleration

Often when you say the words standard and four-cylinder you wouldn’t think we were talking about one of the leading muscle cars in the world, but with the advances in turbocharging that is exactly what we have going on here.  The base model gives us a 2.0-liter turbocharged four –cylinder engine that spits out 275 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque.  This engine will use both a manual and automatic transmission and when riding on the eighteen inch wheels the car will make a run to sixty mph in 5.4 seconds with the manual and 5.5 with the automatic.  The time to the quarter mile mark is 14.0 seconds for both with the manual reaching 100 mph and the automatic 99 mph.

Moving up the engine levels the next up is the 3.6-liter V6 engine that brings in 335 horsepower and 284 lb.-ft. of torque.  This version when riding on twenty-inch wheels will make a run to sixty mph in 5.2 seconds from the manual while the automatic bests it with a 5.1 second time.  Heading toward the quarter mile results in a 13.7 second time at 102 mph for the manual and 13.5 seconds at 103 mph for the automatic making this an awesome car to drive.

Topping the charts is the massive 6.2-liter V8 that gives you a massive 450 horsepower output that is fitted with the twenty inch wheels.  This version reaches sixty mph in 4.3 seconds using the manual transmission while the automatic will make the same run in 4.0 seconds.  The sprint to the quarter mile results in the manual reaching the mark in 12.5 seconds at 115 mph and the automatic getting there in 12.3 seconds at a speed of 116 mph making this a seriously fast and track ready version of the beloved Camaro.

Weight Loss

The Camaro has lost weight and shows up with a beautiful design that puts much less stress on the engine allowing it to utilize all the horsepower for speed.  The change from the Zeta architecture to the new Alpha one makes all the different and was expected to result in only a 200 pound weight loss, let’s see what the actual numbers are.

The 2.0-L Turbo has lost 390 pounds when compared to the 2015 V6.  That might not be a directly fair comparison, but there was no four-cylinder for 2015 so that’s the best we’ve got.  This new model offers 12.1 lbs/hp to give a fantastic performance.  Moving to the middle version the 3.6-L V6 has lost 294 pounds compared to its predecessor.  This gives it a 10.3 lbs/ hp number which is a twelve percent improvement over the previous model.  At the top end, the 6.2-L V8 lost 223 pounds, which is the closest to the actual numbers given by Chevrolet.  This gives this power hungry beast an 8.1 lbs/hp number which is an improvement of fourteen percent over the previous year.  It’s easy to see why so many are looking forward to the Camaro coming to sale soon with these impressive changes in power and performance.
